Spyanki Lhasa Apsos

Little dogs with big personalities

Wicket AKA Sarkam Miles Better at Spyanki

People always say you should pick the dog in a litter that comes to you first.  If we had done that we would have a little gold boy now - Wicket was sleeping in his bed when we entered the room but as soon as I had his litter brother in my hands, I could feel a little dog trying to climb up onto my knee.  I looked down at the black and white bundle of fluff who was so desperate to get my attention and I knew then and there which lhasa was going to be mine.  I never put him back down that day until he was in his new home.

That little puppy was the beginning of our love affair was lhasas.  He was a brilliant puppy in every way.  He was so easy to train, so intelligent and such a loving dog.  We often comment that if he hadn't been such a great puppy then there would never have been another dog, let alone another lhasa!

Wicket goes to obedience training twice a week but never really does his heelwork indoors.  His stubborn streak shines through instead.  He doesn't see the point in walking around in circles indoor when you could be socialising and playing with the other dogs!  He's an outdoor kinda lad and loves to lounge about outside all day long!  He recently started going to agility which is more up his street. He loves running and jumping.

Wicket's first photo in his forever home.                      Wicket playing with his favourite toy aged almost 2.                              Wicket in April 2009 posing for the camera!

Wicket has the best temperament you could hope for in a dog.  He is so loving and affectionate and always eager to please  but ... Lhasas were bred to be watchdogs and my goodness, doesn't he let you know when there is someone at the door!   He'll bark and howl (and usually set Raven barking too) until you answer it so there's no hiding from door to door salesmen when he is around.  I think he thinks everyone is there to see him.

Wicket may not be a typical lhasa but, in my eyes, he's the best!  He'll always be top dog in our house (even though he's firmly at the bottom of the pack!).
